Ring transformations in heterocyclic chemistry

The course is aimed at familiarization and mechanism-based rationalization of expected and unexpected conversions selected from the highly diverse chemistry of heterocyclic ring systems of different ring size and prominent relevance in pharmaceutical research. A special emphasis is put on disclosing general and specific structure-reactivity relationships, as even apparently minimal structural modifications might often fundamentally change the outcome of a number of reactions. It is of note that rational design of certain synthetic procedures is enabled by the well-documented structure-reactivity relationships discussed in the frame of this course.
